The Higgins House is a beautiful bed and breakfast, wonderfully appointed, centrally located to historic Sanford, terrific restaurants, micro breweries, wine bars, and restful parks.
The best feature of the Higgins House is the innkeeper, Lisa, who literally pampers us throughout the day. Our day began with a multi course gourmet breakfast, included a late afternoon hor d’oeuvres, and ended with evening spirits and desserts. Each offering is designed for our specific enjoyment as well as to foster easy conversation with Lisa and our fellow guests. On the morning of our departure, Lisa even packed us a big slice of delicious Hummingbird Cake.
The antique furnishings throughout the house are so welcoming! Not to mention the royal treatment you receive during your stay. All the lovely touches, like wine and cheese upon check-in; a night-cap before retiring for the evening and a scrumptious breakfast that is both pleasing to the eye and delicious! Located in the heart of Historical Sanford, there are plenty of establishments to visit; food, wine and craft beer venues, within walking distance. I will most definitely come back now that I know what there is to enjoy.
How often have you had a direct descendent (great granddaughter) of a historical (1894) Victorian home greet you at the door? Lisa, Innkeeper and owner of The Higgins House welcomed our late arrival with a smile. The House is just 4 blocks from the city and sits on a wide street across from a park. It has a large front porch and upstairs balcony that is perfect for relaxing day or night. Lisa was always at the ready with directions, recommendations and food. Breakfast was delectable and several guests requested her recipes. During our stay Valentine’s Day week, we were served a candlelight breakfast with butter pats in the shape of hearts and home-made blueberry scones. After that first breakfast, it suddenly became the most interesting meal of the day though the City has many must visit restaurants. Wine and cheese were available early evening and we were tempted with cookies/pastries during the day. The Higgins House accommodates every reason you book a bed and breakfast for: a historical stay with an interesting acquisition; period décor, relaxing accommodations, knowledgeable staff and most importantly, breakfasts to drool over. Our stay couldn’t have better. Thanks Lisa for making The Higgins House a place to love.
My wife and I are still describing this stay. The facility, owner/hostess Lisa and proximity to restaurants and shops was perfect. It starts the minute you walk inside this magnificent time capsule to the Victorian age. The detail, decor and furnishings are perfect.
During our stay we had the Willow Room. All the necessary toiletry items were stocked and top quality. My wife and I joked that our next visit we just needed to show up with our toothbrushes:). My wife also loved the big fluffy white robes.
The front veranda and rear garden entice you to stop and enjoy the wicker rockers as you have your morning coffee or evening beverage. Sitting on the front veranda you have an unspoiled view of the tranquil Centennial Park.
Lisa is a perfect hostess and fantastic cook to spoil you with her attention and homemade baked goods. It seemed like the home always smelled of sweet cinnamon rolls being made:)
It was just blocks to the main area of town where we had our choice of multiple shops, cafes and restaurants.
The Higgins House is located in the Historic District of Sanford where this home shows off its perfect landscaping and impeccable attention to detail.
All in all this was one of our favorite stays in both our North and South America travels.
While traveling in Florida I found a terrific German restaurant in Sanford. I liked it so much I opted to stay in Sanford the night before my flight home. I struggled to find a room on Daytona 500 weekend but lucked out with a last minute cancellation at the Higgins House. Upon arrival our hostess Lisa made us feel at home in this marvelous Victorian home. Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and late night aperitifs were a very pleasant surprise. The breakfast was homemade and delicious.
We stayed here on 12/21/17 while attending a Christmas party in Sanford. Both the town and the Higgins House were a very pleasant surprise! The hotel is conveniently located in the historical area, and an easy walk to the main street where there are fun shops and a good selection of restaurants. Higgins House is lovely… well-decorated, the amenities plentiful, thoughtful and high-end, the snacks and food are wonderful, the bed was comfortable with beautiful linens, and everything is immaculately clean. Lisa, the owner, was very pleasant and accommodating in all things. She’s an excellent cook! She was happy to make delicious gluten-free food for me – and her GF chocolate chip cookies were the best I’ve had anywhere. I’d make another trip to Sanford just to stay here again – would be a very pleasant getaway!
